An evening of floral design, art, and South Asian expression at 5X Festival 2024

There’s something electric about art when it’s made in community—when florals bloom alongside poetry, projection, pottery, and movement. For the 2024 5X Art Party, I had the honour of curating a floral-forward experience that wove through a night of South Asian creativity, colour, and joy.

Hosted at Beaumont Studios in downtown Vancouver, this wasn’t just an art party—it was a celebration that felt like your cousin’s wedding: full of love, music, and the beautiful chaos of belonging.

In Bloom — The Installations

We used florals as a language—soft, dramatic, sculptural—layered into other mediums like fashion, animation, painting, and light projection. Every piece was a collaboration with South Asian artists, with petals, stems, and texture grounding the story.

The Theme – Blooming & Belonging

The heart of the night was rooted in Blooming & Belonging—a shared expression of identity through artistry. Each floral gesture was designed not just to decorate, but to participate—in the movement, in the dialogue, in the celebration.

Collaborators

This installation was made possible by the generous spirit and talent of every South Asian artist involved. Thank you for letting florals be part of your work, your stories, your expression.

To bloom is a radical act of softness. To belong is a revolution of joy.
